One of the longest running independent games on the Internet, UniBall has evolved from a simple version of space hockey into a sport that is uniquely its own. The basics remain simple and easy to learn: you maneuver, you pass and you shoot in order to score goals. But beyond this simple design lies a surprisingly complex game involving teamwork and individual skill that can take a lifetime to master.

The UBSA(Uniball Soccer Association) league created by Bombastic has run through its beta season and the statistics for it have recently been reset. UBSA games are played on the map minisoccer with an 8 player limit, and those looking to join the matches are able to do so after signing up in the UBSA channel.

Robert's(Creative's) Uniball Demos site at http://www.uniball-guide.info/demos/ has now built up a sizeable amount of user-submitted Uniball game recordings. The UBO section on the site contains chosen tournament matches from the Uniball Olympics, and a section for ladder battles is also present.

Signups for season 1 of Drakling's UBO(Uniball Olympics) Hockey tournament, which is scheduled to run with a two-week season, are currently open in the UBO channel for those interested in participating. Teams will be drafted on May 13 and UBO games will begin May 17. Also, the UHL is back during May as the Masters-n-Minions(MnM) league goes on break following its successful first run in April.

The MnM(Masters and Minions) League created by WetWookie has taken off as the main ongoing tournament while the UHL(Uniball Hockey League) takes a scheduled break. The league, which is run in the MnM channel, has flourished due to its distinctive method of team selection, where captains are selected by the programmed bot and teams are selected by those captains.

Uniball is currently ranked in the top five on the Multiplayer Online Games Directory's Game of the Month voting list. The ranking on www.mpogd.com represents support from players of each game as they vote to defeat the others.

As many of you know, the UB administration is headed up by three "Lead Admins," who are especially responsible for the leadership of the admin staff, and hearing complaints from the entire community about any particular admin. These are the admins you would write to to report admin abuse, and these admins have a lot of influence over major "admin decisions." Until recently, the three lead admins have been Line, Zoinky, and myself, but as you may also know, Line has been absent for about ten thousand years. We have chosen to replace her with WetWookie because of his many contributions to UB, his general level-headedness, and the long duration of his service as an admin.

Major changes: - Built in multiserver support -- double-click (or use the drop down) on a server to create a game on that server - Demo recording -- demos are automatically recorded and can be saved after each game -- double-click or use the "Play Demo" button to view demos - UniBall now remembers the most recent view rotation for each team on each map - UniBall also remembers the last settings you used to create a map (excluding password) - UniBall uses a more reliable method of remembering the resolution (this does, unfortunately, require that you manually set your resolution one more time) - Triple buffering support has been added and is enabled by default, should result in smoother framerates (i.e. more consistently closer to 59) in many cases

Other changes: - UniBall can now be installed on a completely per-user basis (for improved Vista compatibility) -- it's highly recommended that Vista users uninstall UniBall v2.2.5 first to clean out their folders - UniBall window will flash when lobby is full for everyone (not just the game creator) - UniBall now defaults to the user's desktop resolution when run for the first time - UniBall closes log files after exiting a game (instead of after closing UniBall) - F1 help text no longer gets stuck open - Dialog font switched from MS Sans Serif to the default system font, might result in a nicer looking font for some users - Log format changed slightly: "SCORE FINAL" only marks a completed game (where a team has won) - Screenshots are now named with a timestamp instead of being numbered sequentially

There were 8 teams competing in today's 24-player single-elimination 3on3 MiniBall tournament. Team 4(jag, fiend and glacier) was able to defeat Team 2(j00ked, Recoil and toadstyle) 10-9 in the third and final round to become the winning team. Players taking part were randomly assigned to their teams by Wetwookie's tournament bot.

The general consensus is that the new BR Chat icons, which were updated about a week ago, are either an improvement over the previously used icons or are just about as good. Although some players miss the ninja icon or are unsure about the "thumbs up" icon, the majority are glad that jamez created these renovated symbols of BR Chat status.

The squad known as DD has recently been re-created with an assortment of members coming from squads pVc and MPT. Past DD members Ironman and Drakling have returned, and a couple of spots are still available for those willing and able to become part of this dominant group of players.
