<Maria> Ok, well I'm 24 yrs old (not 50 like people think). I started playing UB about 4 yrs ago (Nov of 2001). The main reason at first was to see what my bro was doing on this game all day long. I also play rugby and I'm a DJ. I enjoy long walks on the beach and...err yea :)

<Ironman> I've heard you actually started out in racing instead of miniball.  Not many people have gone that route do you think it affected your gameplay?

<Maria> haha umm..

<Maria> well I did the racing thing for about a year and a half before I played any other map on UB. I found it to be fun and the DMRx chat was my "main chat" I never looked in BR and when people said "1 for hock" it was foreign to me. In regards to game play, im sure it probably did affect it but being the best UB'er was never on my list of things to do. I'm here to chat with people, and play for fun. One day I may be good at this game..who knows ;p

<Ironman> Ok hopefully people are bright enough to realize why you choose Maria ;] but why in the world Rugr?

<Maria> haha ok here's the story with that.

<Maria> I started playing on RuGr. The reason for it was, 1) I couldn’t think of another name. 2) I wanted to come on and not have my brother notice me at first, especially being in the DMRx channel. I was away at school and he wouldn’t suspect me coming on UB.  RuGr is pronounced like RUGGER.  A Rugger is a rugby player and I play rugby. The reason I spelt it like that was b/c I didn’t wanna fully give it away to my bro and I tried to be creative.. obviously it didn’t work. I used Maria about a year later b/c I was in the mood to "be myself" and so it stuck that I played UB games on RuGr and BR on Maria

<Ironman> What keeps you coming back to uniball, why doesn't the game just get old?

<Maria> It's a good break from "reality". I’m on here mostly to talk with people. I've made some cool friends on this game in the past 4 yrs and so I like to keep in touch with them. And its amusing to read the main chat when people are arguing about the most ridiculous things. Also, it’s a good stress reliever. Whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed, I'll play a few games of UB just to get my mind focused on something else.

<Maria> I like to play competitively too, but I haven't in a while. But that may change when the new ladder comes out :)

<Ironman> So do you think someday we will ever see Maria in a top laddering squad such as Maven, Phear, S-U?

<Maria> hahah... nah I don’t think so..for a couple of reasons.

<Maria> 1) I don’t think I’ll get to that playing level. 2) I'm pretty content in BB right now.  It's an awesome squad and the people in it are very mature and fun people to be in a squad with

<Maria> i'd have to say when i was in omgfu (the racing squad) and we were unstoppable. 

<Maria> LB lead the troops and their were squad specifically made just to take us out and all failed

<Ironman> If racing came back today would you still be an active racer?

<Maria> I probably would.. but I wouldn’t be competitive as i was

<Maria> lol well it was really frustrating in the beginning when everyone thought i was Fero :|

<Maria> so i was at my friends dorm room one night.. he was entertaining some friends..and I was sitting on the bed and this girl who was sitting next to me just randomly asked me "do you want to play rugby?" and i was like huh? i dont know how to play and she said.. "its ok, we'll teach you" and i was like sure why not..it was my 2nd semester of freshman year and i had nothing better to do with my time (b/c who does school work in college?) so i went to practice..i found it to be really fun..and I stuck with it
