My Philosophy on waiting in games in progress by: rileyriley
Ok. So I was in this game, like -=E=- v 2 or something. One of the players from E was lagging like shit, and kept getting the ball, then ramming into a corner, etc. Then he got disconnected. His teammate said wait. I waited. New person comes in. "Play Ball," the guy says. We play for maybe 10 seconds. The guy says wait again, kicks out the new person (presumably so his partner can come back in). So I stop. I understand, lag is frustrating. etc. But what's interesting was that each time he said wait, I had the ball. Each time he said resume, he promptly knocked me and got the ball. Ok, so that got a little frustrating. So the laggy E guy comes back, and gets lagged in a corner w/ the ball again. At this point, the ball has been stolen from me fairly cheaply twice in a row, so I have no compunction about taking the ball from the lagger, right? Well that's not acceptable. I've clicked my mouse to shoot into the goal, and "w8" pops up again. The ball shoots into the goal. I start explaining myself. Get one line out, before "omfg, bye riley" comes up and I'm booted. Like _I'm_ the one being the asshole.

So here is my philosophy:

It is unfair to ask other people to wait. They want to play, and there is no fair way to resume the game after waiting. If you want to wait for something, just do it and suck up the extra 3 points or whatever. Big deal. Now, it might be a different story if someone gets disconnected in a ladder game or something, but when you're just casually playing random people, asking them to wait for fear they'll get 20 seconds of free shooting is ridiculously selfish.

The ironic thing is that I normally wait anyway. Had E not asked me to wait so many times and then taken the ball for me, I would have done it on my own and resumed playing when it looked like everyone was relatively well connected. {sigh}
