First of all I just want to say that I'm not trashing newbies. The game needs newbies or a lot of us vets wouldn't have the confidence we do today (that's just a joke). But seriously, everyone starts out as a newbie - and unless you have cable or DSL - the newbie period in our uniball growth can last months. Stop the hate, newbies rock!
A few months ago I didn't have a clue wtf a smurf was. I just assumed people were calling me a little blue critter that lives in a mushroom and has no mother (ever notice that? Papa smurf never had a woman did he - I doubt Smurfette would have anything to do with the old fart...hmmmm makes me wonder what he and Brainy smurf did in their spare time). In case you don't know, a smurf is a veteran player who comes on with a new name and poses as a newbie but plays like a vet.
Anyways, with the unfortunate loss of BRchat, I've noticed an ever-growing number of smurfs showing up (well so it seems). Smurfs are bad, mmm-kay. I've always been a firm believer in integrity - and it feels like smurfing violates that. Are you embarrassed of your name and reputation? Are you afraid you are going to lose to someone in particular? Bah, get a grip.
It's not THAT big of an annoyance - until I see some squads that appear to have an endless roster of players (you know who you are). And I suspect one squad in particular which is fairly reputable (though I won't name names). Ya its just a game, but you don't see Kurt Warner changing his name before a football game. Its an honorable thing to keep your name - shows you respect the people you play by letting them know what they're up against.
Anyways I just wanted to vent. BTW I'm NOT Cirdan, nor have I ever been. The only other name I went by is Briggs (yes I sucked then with my pathetic dial-up ISP). There ARE people out there that do work their way up from newbie status - and in that same breath I would like to congratulate and honor Guga! GUGA FIRE!
