One of the longest running independent games on the Internet, UniBall has evolved from a simple version of space hockey into a sport that is uniquely its own. The basics remain simple and easy to learn: you maneuver, you pass and you shoot in order to score goals. But beyond this simple design lies a surprisingly complex game involving teamwork and individual skill that can take a lifetime to master.
UniBall v2.3.6 is the most recent release of UniBall. The setup program, available below, includes:
UniBall - the game client
BRChat - chat with other players from the UniBall community
Requirements: all you need to play this game is a Windows operating system and an Internet connection!
UBO and UHL posted by McCheese on 05-07-2008 21:27
Signups for season 1 of Drakling's UBO(Uniball Olympics) Hockey tournament, which is scheduled to run with a two-week season, are currently open in the UBO channel for those interested in participating. Teams will be drafted on May 13 and UBO games will begin May 17. Also, the UHL is back during May as the Masters-n-Minions(MnM) league goes on break following its successful first run in April.
MnM posted by McCheese on 04-15-2008 12:46
The MnM(Masters and Minions) League created by WetWookie has taken off as the main ongoing tournament while the UHL(Uniball Hockey League) takes a scheduled break. The league, which is run in the MnM channel, has flourished due to its distinctive method of team selection, where captains are selected by the programmed bot and teams are selected by those captains.

Uniball is currently ranked in the top five on the Multiplayer Online Games Directory's Game of the Month voting list. The ranking on www.mpogd.com represents support from players of each game as they vote to defeat the others.
WetWookie is replacing Line as a lead admin posted by Zoinky on 03-26-2008 07:02
As many of you know, the UB administration is headed up by three "Lead Admins," who are especially responsible for the leadership of the admin staff, and hearing complaints from the entire community about any particular admin. These are the admins you would write to to report admin abuse, and these admins have a lot of influence over major "admin decisions." Until recently, the three lead admins have been Line, Zoinky, and myself, but as you may also know, Line has been absent for about ten thousand years. We have chosen to replace her with WetWookie because of his many contributions to UB, his general level-headedness, and the long duration of his service as an admin.
Currently, the lead admin triumvirate is: rileyriley WetWookie Zoinky

New UB Release! posted by Frog on 03-23-2008 11:14
Thanks to the handy work of Ataqer and Zoinky (server-side modifications), we have a new UniBall release!
UniBall v2.3.0 - March 16th, 2008 --------------------------------- All listed changes by Ataqer unless otherwise specified Your friendly neighborhood administrators provided helpful beta testing Thanks to all those who have reported bugs
Many thanks to NickW for his permission to work on the UniBall client!
Major changes: - Built in multiserver support -- double-click (or use the drop down) on a server to create a game on that server - Demo recording -- demos are automatically recorded and can be saved after each game -- double-click or use the "Play Demo" button to view demos - UniBall now remembers the most recent view rotation for each team on each map - UniBall also remembers the last settings you used to create a map (excluding password) - UniBall uses a more reliable method of remembering the resolution (this does, unfortunately, require that you manually set your resolution one more time) - Triple buffering support has been added and is enabled by default, should result in smoother framerates (i.e. more consistently closer to 59) in many cases
Minor changes: - While browsing games, scores will now update mere moments after a goal has been scored (Zoinky provided necessary server-side changes for this) - While browsing games, team switching will also update mere moments after someone has switched teams (Zoinky provided necessary server-side changes for this) - Players can switch teams in the lobby (Zoinky provided necessary server-side changes for this) - For untimed games, the in game clock now shows total elapsed time instead of time since user has joined (Zoinky provided necessary server-side changes for this) - You can now double-click on games in the "Select Games" dialog to join them - Added some color to the chat window in the game lobby - Pause message should behave better - Default button for "View Scores" changed to Tab, which makes a lot more sense than F8 - F1 help text will display upon first run of the game - A tutorial is offered to players when they first attempt to connect - Added a potential fix for UniBall crashing when run on a computer without any audio hardware - Maps are now downloaded into a maps folder - "Play Offline" now brings up a "File Open" dialog where you can conveniently load any map for your offline enjoyment - Free flight in observer mode is now activated through the movement keys or by holding your brake key and moving the mouse to the edge of the screen -- this applies to both windowed and fullscreen views
Other changes: - UniBall can now be installed on a completely per-user basis (for improved Vista compatibility) -- it's highly recommended that Vista users uninstall UniBall v2.2.5 first to clean out their folders - UniBall window will flash when lobby is full for everyone (not just the game creator) - UniBall now defaults to the user's desktop resolution when run for the first time - UniBall closes log files after exiting a game (instead of after closing UniBall) - F1 help text no longer gets stuck open - Dialog font switched from MS Sans Serif to the default system font, might result in a nicer looking font for some users - Log format changed slightly: "SCORE FINAL" only marks a completed game (where a team has won) - Screenshots are now named with a timestamp instead of being numbered sequentially
MiniBall Tournament posted by McCheese on 03-18-2008 20:48
There were 8 teams competing in today's 24-player single-elimination 3on3 MiniBall tournament. Team 4(jag, fiend and glacier) was able to defeat Team 2(j00ked, Recoil and toadstyle) 10-9 in the third and final round to become the winning team. Players taking part were randomly assigned to their teams by Wetwookie's tournament bot.
BR Chat Icons posted by McCheese on 03-15-2008 21:03
The general consensus is that the new BR Chat icons, which were updated about a week ago, are either an improvement over the previously used icons or are just about as good. Although some players miss the ninja icon or are unsure about the "thumbs up" icon, the majority are glad that jamez created these renovated symbols of BR Chat status.
DD Returns posted by McCheese on 03-14-2008 20:21
The squad known as DD has recently been re-created with an assortment of members coming from squads pVc and MPT. Past DD members Ironman and Drakling have returned, and a couple of spots are still available for those willing and able to become part of this dominant group of players.
UniBall has moved its main server. This site, BR Chat and the master server have been moved to a server located in San Jose, California. This means that there is now a new server serving the west coast of North America, and which better serves Asian and Oceanic players.
If you can see this site, but you can't get on to the new BR server, or you can't connect to the master server, you will need to update their configuration.
To change what server BR Chat connects to, when BR first opens, click on Settings, and then change Server Host to: uniball-central.net and make sure the Server Port is set to 34340. You should be able to connect to BR Chat using the new server.
If you can't connect to the masterserver (from the Server Browser), you will need to edit serverbrowser.ini in your UniBall folder. To do this, go to Start -> Run, and enter "notepad" (no quotes). Go to File -> Open. Now, assuming you installed UniBall to the default location, type the following into the file name box (again, no quotes): "c:\program files\uniball\serverbrowser.ini" and press Open. In this file, make sure that you have "Host=uniball-central.net" and "Port=5882". Once you have this, go to File -> Save, and close Notepad. You should now be able to use the Server Browser.
For those who don't know what it is, the Server Browser is a program allowing you to see what games are on all the UniBall servers. To run it, go to Start -> All Programs -> UniBall -> Server Browser. This is a very handy program now that we have servers on the east and west coasts of the USA, as well as a server in the UK.
As always, if you run into problems, please contact an admin, and we'll give you a hand.
